An onsen that we visited in February had a little area where you could hang little boards, like the ones you see at Japanese shrines, with your deepest wishes and desires written on them.
If one of the boards is any indication, the youth of Japan are aiming high. This student’s wish was:
I’d like to score 70% or better on each day’s test.
