Porcini Overload

The DHL man showed up on our door recently, bringing with him a metric shit-ton of dried porcini, courtesy of our crazy Italian friend ™ Emanuele.

This is the good stuff: big, thick slices of mushroom, carefully dried and packaged so you end up with whole dried fungi, not fungus powder. Even before I opened the cardboard box that the mushrooms were shipped in, the aroma of the porcini was almost overwhelming.

Strangely enough, I was bragging about our newfound mushroom-y wealth to a German friend, who wanted to know where in Milan the mushrooms had been bought. Turns out, she lived right across the street from the store (La Fungheria, natch) before she relocated to Japan. Small world.

To celebrate, Yukari made porcini risotto last night. Delizioso!
